So I didn't update for a few days, well that's because I'll be changing the post format soon. I wanted to hold off until I had that ready, but it's taking a lot longer than expected and I don't think it will be finished very soon. This is wholly due to the fact it's basically transitioned into a semi-automated system that can process data a lot faster than me.

In that process I found something dirty in cuetool's lossywav pipe. My own pipe, (wavpcm→(sox, if need to resample)→lossyWAV→flac), produces a much "cleaner" spectrum difference between the original. However, I've abx'ed encodes from cuetools many times before and I know they are transparent, so it doesn't really mean anything it's just interesting, since there isn't much you can do between decompressing and throwing it into lossywav and then compressing it again.

So what this means for the releases on this site is,
  • No more cuesheets, you can't burn lossywav files to a CD anyway making it redundant.
  • No more embedded folder.jpg, makes more sense to have one higher resolution image than many smalls ones and one medium one, try metaflac (metaflac --import-picture-from=3||||folder.jpg *FILE*) if you need embedded images.
